FoWP observes MLK Day of Service

Across the city of Atlanta, and throughout the country,  volunteers served their communities during the weekend of January 18th - 20th in observation of the annual Martin Luther King Day of Service.  Friends of Washington Park (FoWP) volunteers were no exception. On Saturday, January 19th, FoWP volunteers were joined by KIPP WAYS Academy scholars and college students from across Georgia for "a day on, not a day off."  Volunteers cleared large areas of Washington Park that had been subjected to illegal dumping.  Large items, including part of a pick-up truck, were gathered by volunteers and later removed by the city.  Despite the fact that the morning was cut short by a rare, heavy Atlanta snow, the clean up was a great success.  It was the perfect opportunity to support a park Dr. King frequented over the years with his family.
